Esplanade



Esplanade  Theatres on the Bay is Singapore iconic landmark built along the riverside of Marina Bay. Covering six hectares of waterfront land size, Esplanade’s establishment is aim to provide a world class venue for arts performance. Esplanade was officially opened on 12 October 2002, with a built up cost of SGD600 million. Esplanade also renowned as durian – Malay words of a tropical fruit by locals based on its unique architectural design that has similar appearance.
Esplanade contains world class performing spaces for arts and music, in addition with wide range of facilities and professional services. Esplanade main highlights are its Concert Hall and Theatre and both are connected to the main concourse via a foyer. Esplanade Mall is located in between of these 2 halls.
Concert Hall
The Concert Hall accommodates about 1600 seats over four levels in a comfortable setting. There have different types of seats including Stalls, Foyer stalls, and Circles 1, 2, and 3.The Concert Hall serves as venue for concerts, recital and other performances. This concert hall is built with state-of-the-art acoustics technology and architecture that only five other halls in the world have such state-of-the-art acoustics.
Theatre
The Esplanade Theatre has a capacity of about 2000 seats spread over four floors. It is designed to support all genres of performing arts, musicals, classical, traditional and contemporary forms of performances including advanced multimedia performances.
Recital Studio
Recital Studio is designed like a fan-shaped and is a good venue for small scale musical performance, as well as presentations and meetings. Recital Studio hall material usage are designed for good acoustics.
Jendela
Dedicated for visual arts, The Esplanade Jendela is a 215 sq m space on the second floor. With nice panoramic views of Marina Bay, the Jendela hosts many art exhibitions from artists all over the world.
Library@Esplanade
The national library at Esplanade located on the third level. Library@Esplanade is Singapore first public library that mainly devoted for arts scene.
Outdoor Venues
The Esplanade features an outdoor performance venue called the Outdoor Theatre which is located along the promenade. The Outdoor Theatre provides regular free performances, meant to liven up the arts scene. Other than that, the building also features a large roof terrace with a panoramic view of Marina Bay and the city area. On the National day, there will have a lot of people flock to there to view the fireworks. There are also courtyards and open spaces which can be used for various activities.
