Singapore Independence Day



Singapore Independence Day fall on 9 August every year. Orchidstar, the logo for 47th Singapore Independence Day, or called National Day Parade 2012 shows various elements to express NDP 2012 theme “Loving Singapore, Our Home”.
Orchid is Singapore national flower. Taking “Vanda Miss Joaquim” orchid as logo for 47th Singapore Independence Day, the NDP 2012 logo reminds Singaporean of this garden city called “Home”. The various colors of logo reflect the vitality and diversity of Singaporean, including Chinese, Malay, India, Eurosia, Peranakan, and new migrants. The red heart incorporated within the logo symbolizes the love for their people and their nation. It also means and reminds the importance of a harmony society.
The theme for National Day Parade 2012 or NDP 2012 is “Loving Singapore, Our Home”. “Loving Singapore” encourages Singaporeans to reflect on what it means to love their country, what they appreciate about Singapore, and how each individual can express their love to their country. It is an invitation for all Singaporeans to join the NDP 2012 journey to rediscover and remember what they love best about their country.
National Day Parade 2012 celebrations played out across Marina Bay, with 100,000 packing the area to feel the festive atmosphere. It was a resounding show of national unity – a key note brought up by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his annual Singapore National Day message on Wednesday.
Singapore Independence Day was being celebrated amid an “unsettled world”, he said, but Singapore is still doing well. The economy grew 1.7 percentage in the first half of the year, and the growth forecast for the full year has been revised to between 1.5 percentage and 2.5 percentage. PM Lee pledged that the Government would do more to build an inclusive society underpinned by hope and love, and all walks of life of Singaporean will be taken care.
