The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a
national landmark and features a small tropical rainforest with coverage area
of 74 hectares. Located just a short distance from Orchard Road, Singapore

Founded in 1859 by Agri-Horticultural
Society,Singapore
Botanic Garden was once
planned as a leisure garden and ornamental park. The Agri-Horticultural Society
has organized numerous flower shows and horticultural fetes. In the later
stages, it has many functionality and landscapes changes under different
dedicated administrators.
In 1996, besides continuing the
Gardens’ traditional roles in research, education and conservation,Singapore
government is steering the Botanic Gardens on a long term upgrading program to
provide better public facilities and amenities. New attractions such as the
Ginger Garden, Evolution
Garden, Coolhouse and the
Children’s Garden are being added to keep the Botanic Gardens relevant as a
leading recreational leisure park. Botanic Garden is geared towards entrenching
itself as a tropical botanical institution of international renown, a key
tourist destination and a flagship park.
National Orchid Garden
Located in the central core of Singapore Botanic Garden,
National Orchid Garden
was recognized as the world largest orchid display featuring of over 60,000
plants and orchids.
The National Orchid
Garden houses over 1,000
species of orchids and around 2,000 hybrids of orchids.
Heritage Tree of Walking Trail
Take a leisurely walk amidst the lush,
verdant grounds of the Botanic Gardens and appreciate the beauty of these
Heritage Trees, all living legacies of Singapore’s green heritage and
hosts to a diverse range of other flora and fauna.
There are currently about 178 listed
Heritage Trees of various species in Singapore, of which 14 can be found
right here in the Botanic Gardens. This walking trail brings you to see seven
of the more easily accessible Heritage Trees.
The Singapore Botanic Gardens
recreates a small tropical rainforest spread across six hectares. In the heart
of the Singapore Botanic Gardens is the Evolution Garden
that illustrates the evolution of plant life. The Ginger Garden located next to
the National Orchid Garden
is a special place for the plants from the Ginger Family
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is
surrounded by three beautiful lakes. If you are lucky then you can witness a
live concert at the Symphony
Lake. The Eco Lake
is a wonderful place for a variety of birds including herons, water hens and
ducks. The Swan Lake
is one of the most impressive parts of the Singapore Botanic Garden.
